Firoz, Age 22 Now, presently work as an jewelry craft artisan in UP, India. In early days of his life, he had to left school due to poverty and to help support his family. He found our Organization (Handmade Pride) a year ago without knowing anything about jewelry. He went through our training program, and soon she learned how to bead jewelry and crafts. Firoz now helps to teach other artisan in his community. The fair wage he earns has enabled her to help support his family and to continue sending his younger siblings to school.
When she was only 11 years old, Faiza's father passed away in an road accident, leaving Faiza, her Mother and Three younger siblings to support themselves. Faiza left school and learned to embroider from her mother. They got sporadic work from local contractors, but sometimes they got paid and sometimes they didn't. A neighbor introduced her to Handmade Pride, a Community in India that employs over 200 low-income artisans. She get training for weaving, cutting, tailoring, etc. here and soon establish herself as an skilled artisan in doing the same. Faiza is now 21 and has been working in our organization from more than two years. She earned a good wage, and have medical insurance for herself & her family and a saving plan for her future necessity.
Her husband is a labor in construction company but he has a bad habit of drinking he spend his whole income in drinking so there is little amount for his family survival. To give good education to her children she started stitching some neighbor blouse, dress, mandala towels or some alteration work then there was academy where stitching was taught for free for women survival she learns and enhance here efficiency now she is working with Handmade Pride giving most efficient output to the company.
Faizan was born into an orthodox Muslim family in Old Delhi, India. he was difficult to find work in his conservative community without discrimination. With the help of two of his siblings, he started a self-help group and began working on handicrafts for Handmade Pride. Gradually, under the leadership of Handmade Pride, Faizan now have 3 artisan in his group. Everyone is receiving fair wages in accordance with their experience and skill level. The workers all have health care and work in a clean, well-ventilated facility. "We can now live the life we want, without cultural restraints. We feel empowered, like there's nothing we can't do.
